Activities
Between the end of the procession and the start of the fireworks there is a space just right for a bite to eat and perhaps a trip to one of the City’s other attractions.
All of the places mentioned below are marked on the interactive map in our new iPhone app.
Guided walks
At 3pm the City of London Guide Lecturers are offering free guided walks. Every stone in the City has a story to tell and the Guides know every corner, church and cubbyhole. Find them outside #1 Poultry – the distinctive stripy building opposite Mansion House – or look for the walk icon on the map or in the app.
Museums & galleries
The City has many small characterful museums and galleries: The Clockmakers museum and the Guildhall Art Gallery, the Twinings Museum, Dr Johnson’s House, the Clink and the Bank of England museum are all just a short walk away from the processional route. The recently renovated Museum of London offers a splendid and pungent view of London’s turbulent history, and the Barbican is Europe’s largest mixed cultural venue offering cinemas, theatres, galleries, libraries and even a conservatory to wander through.
Castles and cathedrals
The City of London has some of the world’s finest old buildings and with no traffic around the Lord Mayor’s Show is the best day of the year to see them. The Tower of London, Guildhall, the crypt of St Brides and the ancient Church of St Giles are all open on the day of the Show and St Pauls is only one of many striking Wren Churches in the area.
